There has been an increase in the number of stolen and missing pets in town recently.
This week, a cream and white three-month-old female puppy called Rozanna went missing from her home in Acaciavale. Also missing from Acaciavale is a long-legged Jack Russell answering to the name Tuffy. He is white and brown and about 15 years old. A three-year-old female German Shepherd called Coco has gone missing from Van Riebeek Park and a four-month-old black male cat called Casper has gone missing from Woodgate Road. A neutered brown Dachshund (Sausage Dog) called Ropa has gone missing from Diamana Road. If you see Ropa, please contact the Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) before approaching him, as he may bite. If you have seen any of these lost souls or have any information regarding their whereabouts, please contact the league on 076-151-1784.
Most of these animals went missing from their yards. One was even stolen off his running chain. Stolen pets sometimes get sold at the taxi ranks. According to the league, your pets are more likely to go missing on ‘rubbish collection’ days, so please be extra careful. The AACL would like to appeal to the public to be more aware of what is happening in their properties. Please do your best to ensure the safety of your pets at all times.
A lot of people do not realise the responsibility of owning a pet. Please remember that animals need food, water, attention, and if they get sick, they may need to visit a vet. Please consider this carefully before getting a pet. If you do choose to adopt a loving companion, there are many available at the kennels. The league is happy to report that there have been nine dog adoptions and two cat adoptions this month. There is an adorable little spayed puppy who was left in the yard when her previous owners moved away. Her name is Small and she is looking for a good home. She is playful and friendly, and will grow to be a medium-sized dog. She does well with other dogs and would love to have a family. Please find it in your heart to help these animals.
Thanks go to Spar, Mr and Mrs Labuschagne, J Lots, Mr and Mrs du Plessies, Mrs Radebe, Colenso police and Pierre Massyn for their donations. These contributions keep the kennels going! The kennels need cat food, so please help. They are looking for dry and wet cat food for the kitties who are looking for homes. Please help in any way you can!
