What do you want?
A friend and I were debating an emotional fork in our ‘lives- road’ the other day, when the most obvious question was put to the table: What do you want?
Amazed by its simplicity, we struggled for a second with the idea that the answer to our emotional quandary might be as simple as understanding what it is that we really wanted, and then pursuing this.
Too often, we squash the possibility that we might be able to achieve our deepest wants in life. This is often caused by our own negative self-talk or negative conversations with ourselves.
Over time, we develop ideas about ourselves (I’m too fat or boring or unintelligent) that become reasons for us not being able or deserving of achieving our deepest wants. Although all of us are challenged by unavoidable life events, it is startling to think that we might also be a major barrier between us and us achieving our deepest wants.
Start by shirking the label that you have given yourself and start connecting with and making a list of some the things that you want in a variety of situations. Pay less attention to the voice inside of you that chants ‘I’ll never get what I want’, and stop being afraid of success.
You deserve success just as much as any successful person.
