Sir
It is with great disappointment that I read about the imminent closure of the Crisis Centre’s feeding scheme.
This must be one of the flagship social responsibility programmes in the province, if not the country, with buy-in from the haves and the have not’s across all ethnic and racial groups. Once again the powers that be will be failing the poorest in our community who help keep the town tidy by collecting and delivering recyclable materials to the Crisis Centre in return for something to eat. Orange Grove Dairy have really stepped up to the plate to deliver food to the needy through this facility and ensuring a win-win situation by providing food to those who take the time to help clean up our town.
Many other businesses and volunteers, both locally and even internationally, have also contributed to this programme. This is our 24/7 Madiba Day social responsibility programme that is being closed down. I understand the plight of those residents affected by the facility being in a residential area but surely the municipality could find a suitable alternative venue.
I am so disgusted that I hope that the municipality’s front lawn is considered as that alternative venue for the collection of all the recyclables and perhaps Orange Grove could provide a truck from which the hungry could be fed until the municipality finds a suitable alternative for the town’s beloved Crisis Centre!
Disappointed.
