Rugby club treated at Country Club

The purpose of the function, on the eve of the Bulldogs’ first warm-up game, was to have a formal event to hand out the comprehensive sponsored kit which includes step-outs and match kit

The Bulldogs players, committee members and their spouses enjoyed an exceptional evening at the Country Club on Friday, laid on by Clover Leaf Candles and the Boardman family.

Bulldogs club chairman Dr Andre Beukes was warmly welcomed, as he is still recuperating after the accident he had.

The purpose of the function, on the eve of the Bulldogs’ first warm-up game, was to have a formal event to hand out the comprehensive sponsored kit which includes step-outs and match kit. Philip Boardman from Clover Leaf Candles and Coach Christo Kruger were on hand to congratulate each player. Piet Boshoff urged players to wear the kit with pride, and he announced an exciting incentive deal on behalf of the headline sponsor. For every point scored by the Bulldogs, Clover Leaf Candles will add R100 to the club’s funds. By the same token, for every point conceded, R100 will be conceded.

In a historic move for the club, the Bulldogs have officially joined the Midlands Rugby League for 2015. This will ensure more games and a financially viable season for the club. Players will also travel shorter distances for away fixtures. Bulldogs PRO Blackie Swart was applauded for his efforts to get the club amalgamated with the Midlands sub-union.

The evening ended with a tasty braai supper provided by the sponsors.

Match report: Harrismith, Saturday, February 28:

Running out in their new kit for the first time, the players did exceptionally well in torrential rain, scoring four tries with two conversions to win 24-17.

The supporters and committee were quick to praise the team for their commitment and composure in the trying conditions.
