The blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice
Sampling a bit of 'cross culture'

They say love is blind – and that could explain why Jacob Zuma has so many wives.
In all seriousness though, there are many cases over the years that prove that colour and race play no negative role when it comes to choosing a partner.
In fact, it’s actually been a reason why many people get together. You know all you people who want to add a little spice to your life? There’s nothing wrong with sampling some mixed masala.
Cross culture has been around since apartheid days, even though it was illegal then, and continues to thrive in today’s society. Just walk through a busy mall and count how many mixed-race couples you see holding hands. Just walk through a busy Durban mall and count how many same-race couples who look like mixed race couples you see. Confused? It’s called the Top Deck effect.
Still confused? It’s when you see an extremely fair Indian girl walking hand in hand with an extremely dark Indian guy. The type of guy that’s as dark as a starless night. The only thing that goes through your mind is that this guy must have an amazing personality. Many people wonder also, what does she see in him, assuming she can even see him. Jokes aside though, there’s a saying that rings true in cases like this. The blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice.
The same race, different colour relationship works well though, but what makes a mixed race relationship work? Maybe it’s because it’s a best of both worlds – two people from two very different backgrounds, learning all about each other. Exploring each other’s cultures and lifestyles.
Getting to grips with the different foods and musical tastes. You’ll never get bored of your partner because there’s always so much more to learn about them.
In essence that’s what life is all about – not dating out of your race – but exploring new things. Life is about trying new things and tasting new foods. It’s about getting out of your comfort zone and experiencing the diversity that the world has too offer. Life isn’t about staying in your bubble just because it’s what you know. How will you ever grow that way? So embrace change and try something new, live life to the fullest and one day when you’re old you can truly say that you have no regrets in life.
