Editor – I recently had a major burst pipe on my driveway, which prevented me from entering or exiting my yard for three days.
I’ve had a fruitless battle with uThukela District Municipality to get them to close the valve in order to save water, considering the severe drought we are currently facing.
I tried other alternatives to get uThukela to come out, but that also didn’t work. I even tried to get hold of my Ward councillor, but to no avail. My neighbours asked me to get hold of Councillor Abbas Warasally.
After contacting him, he left what he was doing and came to my assistance. He contacted uThukela and they arrived after a while and dug up my entire driveway, repaired the pipe and left.
Later that evening, uThukela returned to repair the very same leak, as they did not do a satisfactory job.
To date, my driveway is left unattended. I am a pensioner and worried that soon the rains will be here and we will be stuck in our yard.
I would like to thank Cllr Warasally for always making himself available when the community needs his assistance. I wish there were more councillors like him. I would also like to thank Saish Motheram of the Ladysmith Gazette for his quick response and doing justice to the problem I experienced.
