Madam – I want to encourage people of Newcastle to think about their pets this festive season.
There have been many times I have seen neighbours and sometimes even friends and family go on holiday without making arrangements for someone to take care of their pets while they are gone. It just makes me sad to think these animals are left to fend for themselves for whole weekends and sometimes even a whole week at a time.
I myself have pets, and when I go away even for just a day, I always ask someone I trust to check in on them, make sure they have fresh water and food and make sure that everything is fine.
With this unbearable heat, it’s even more important to make sure your pets are well looked after. There is no point saying you are an animal lover and that you have five dogs, two cats and 12 parrots and bunnies, yet at the first sign of going on vacation, you put a bunch of food outside for them and then leave.
I have seen this happen too many times. Animals, your pets, are your responsibility. Please treat them with the kindness and consideration they deserve.
After all, there can be no price put on the love and loyalty and devotion of a pet. Why would you want to take a chance with their lives? If you don’t have friends or family or even colleagues you trust to go to your home to check on your pets, then make an arrangement with the SPCA. They have helped me in the past, and will help you too.
There should be no excuse not to have someone looking out for your pets while you go on holiday.
Think twice
