Madam – New look at re’volt’ing readings.
The story printed in the Advertiser dated 20 November 2015 was really interesting and it made me think of ways that can assist the municipality. While reading the story, I asked myself: How can all the six meter readers be sick at the same time?
It just indicates that there was no control over the meter readers for all of them to be off at the same time. That is too coincidental. More meter readers are really needed and the municipality should budget for them, even if it is literate people from schools or young students looking for payment for a few hours of work.
A certain number of these can be appointed and placed in groups and allocated to areas where meter readings are done. The necessary assistance of the appointed meter readers could accompany these groups in assisting if there are dangerous animals hiding in the warmness of the meters.
I suggest the municipality should reimburse the residents where there was a difference in readings for a period of six months to a year. Cllr Rehman need to pressure the Electricity Department to provide reports on all meters tested and what needs to be done to get it repaired in a short period of time.
Thank you to Councillor, Bebsie Cronje and Dr Keeka who had the courage to sit down with Cllr Rehman to examine the bills and to come to conclusion that the residents need to be informed and that they will do anything in their power to assist the residents where possible regarding electrical meter readings. We might save on every personal level if all services are properly managed and controlled.
