Madam – Why is the local government, the mayor not intervening or commenting about the safety of residents of Paterson Street?
This is in regard to the prostitution that is taking place on the vacant veld right in front of our homes at night.The veld is a mess with both soiled toilet paper and used condoms.We need a flood light and also a CCTV camera.
Regarding Pieter Marais’s (from Protection Services) statement that prostitution did not fall in the powers of the municipality, but should be addressed by the police, I was told the opposite by SAPS.

Thank you for the opportunity to respond. The issue of prostitution and crime, whilst a social ill that the Municipality intends to fight, is an SAPS issue. We have an excellent working relationship with the SAPS, and the matter has been raised with them.
