Through the medium of your newspaper, I would like to bring up these issues with respect to the Estcourt Town Library.

1. Noise! Both library users and staff.

2. Library staff sit at the front desk and make a noise.

3. The library staff are unable to help members look for books but Facebook pages are open on the computers and they say they don’t have the books on the system.

4. Books are not classified correctly on the shelves. This shows that the staff don’t even check the shelves.

5. The library is always packed to capacity.  Too many tables and chairs are all over the place and there is no place for members to walk through and look at books on the shelves.

6. School children sit on the floor and around the shelves and members are unable to choose books.

7. The library is full of litter.

8. People are eating in the library.

9. There is a security guard present but sits idle with the library staff at the front desk.

10. The children’s section is very untidy, with toys lying around everywhere. Children are not being supervised and they are abusing the provided facilities.

11. The Forderville Library has DVDs and Bestseller Books displayed. From what I know, every few weeks, libraries are supposed to get new books and DVDs.  The town library doesn’t have anything displayed.  This shows that the library staff are sitting idle and are not interested.

12. At the entrance of these libraries, there are displays. Forderville keeps updating their displays and the town library doesn’t have displays at all or sometimes have theme, which are there for too long.

13. The town library has air conditioners. I’m not sure if they are switched off or they are not working. Forderville Library air conditioners are always working.

14. The newspapers are just piled up on the table. Sometimes I find newspaper such as The Witness and The Mercury dated two weeks ago on the table.

15. I have also applied for membership at the town library and they said it would take two weeks to load my details on the system.  I went back after a month and my information was just kept in the drawer and still wasn’t loaded on the system.

I then had enough of town library and enrolled for membership at Forderville Library and it took less than two weeks to become a members.
Librarians must get of their backsides and get to work!
