Uniting a nation, or at least a street, in the fight against reptiles

Armed with his bush knife and bottle of Bells, Uncle Bobby made light work of the snake

As the recent American elections and Brexit have proved, the world is still a very divided place.
People all over the world have mixed opinions on the matters, regardless of whether it affects them or not. Even closer to home, many issues continue to divide the country. The recent vote of No Confidence in President Zuma had Parliament and the country on opposite ends. Despite all the divisions, there is hope for the country.
Dahlia Street in Dannhauser is proof that people can be united in the face of adversity. The sighting of a snake in the street brought together a diverse group of residents, all eager to see the snake, but not all eager to get anywhere near it.
Some of the ladies cowered at a safe distance, shouting for their sons to watch out. Some of the men also kept away from the action, while watching as the others tackled the task of dealing with the slithery serpent. Some of the brave souls who took on the fight hurled bricks and insults at the snake in true Indian fighting style. The only difference was that no one held the snake down while his friends kicked it repeatedly and swore its mother.
As the fight intensified and more and more bricks missed its target, more people came to see what the commotion was about. Their curiosity could have been also piqued by the guy shouting ‘Hey, come see the cobra.’
Uncle Bobby, who isn’t even part of the street, came to the rescue. Armed with his bush knife and bottle of Bells, Uncle Bobby made light work of the snake, even having time to take a shot in between slashes.
The encounter proved that people can come together when faced with great danger. Sadly that’s not the case all of the time. South Africa is also faced with a giant serpent proving to be a danger to all.
He may not slither or spit venom but he does run the country and has equally corrupt people in his back pocket. If he won’t step down and if he won’t be voted out, then maybe, just maybe, this is another job for Uncle Bobby.
