Municipality to blame for Lion’s Park chaos

The sad story is that in one year, from the time the municipality reclaimed the area, the park has been totally destroyed and all that was built up through the years was for nothing.

Editor – The Lion’s Park, which has been in the news lately, should no longer be called The Lion’s Park because the municipality gave the Lions Club notice to vacate the area around this time last year.

It was stated that it would be converted into a caravan park.

I was involved in the development of this park from 2000, in partnership with the municipality, and may I say that a lot of the community helped with the cleaning up, the building and the donations to the value of thousands of rands.

The sad story is that in one year, from the time the municipality reclaimed the area, the park has been totally destroyed and all that was built up through the years was for nothing.

The municipality has taken no interest in the area – trees are being chopped down, massive dumping is taking place, and structures have been broken down and stolen. There is no control anymore.

In the newspaper, one reads about the one attack that has happened and the murder that took place. There have been at least four more attacks that I personally know of. The public should be warned to stay away from this area and I request that the municipality put up a gate to block off this area entirely.
