Chromoblastomycosis is a fungal infection caused by a certain type of fungus found in rotting plants, soil and wood.

It enters the skin through pricks or lesions to cause nodules, raised lesions and eruptions.

Complications can arise when the skin becomes severely infected as a result of bacteria.

Symptoms of the disease include big tumoral-type growths that have a cauliflower-like appearance, raised nodules, plaque type lesions with a scaly appearance of the verrucous type, often resembling warts.

Treatment can range from oral medications or anti-fungal creams to cryosurgery, laser treatment and surgical removal.
