Polymorphic light eruption is a rash that occurs when the skin is exposed to sunlight.
The rash occurs as red bumps or tiny blisters. This condition affects about 10 percent of the population.
The rash usually occurs on areas of the body that are covered by clothing during the winter months such as the chest or upper arms. The condition usually disappears within a week of its own accord without any treatment.
It is not infectious and is not connected to skin cancer in any way. Women are more prone to getting it than men.
Prevention involves the use of a sunscreen or avoiding spending time in the sun during hot summer days.
