If the blisters are punctured, the skin becomes dry, itchy and scaly sometimes takes a long time to heal.

Anyone of any race, gender or age group can be affected. The condition is not contagious but can become severely infected if the skin is opened and bacteria set in.

The exact cause of Dyshidrotic Eczema is unknown but it is believed to be an allergic reaction or brought about by a high level of emotional stress or excessive sweating. Certain mineral oils, crèmes or ointments are sometimes used to bring relief to the condition.
In severe cases, treatments may involve the use of topical steroids or ultra violet light therapy.
