Deciding what to do with the rest of your life is no easy task. Teenagers are continuously influenced by their parents, school, teachers and by society.

Everyone seems to have an opinion as to what you should do with the rest of your life, but the real question is: what do you want to do? Choosing a career that you love is a decision you have to make.

From the time you leave school or university, you will spend the next 40 to 50 years doing this job. So you need to make certain you love what you do. Talk to current students and lecturers and ask them about possible paths of study. There is a great variety of courses out there for you to explore and to find an opening that you will be most comfortable in.

No matter what everyone else says, at the end of the day the choice is yours. Try to shut out all the negative external factors such as your family’s influence, money and reputation.

Focus on your passions and try to find what you love to do most. Then, try to imagine yourself doing this every single day.
Don’t let anything or anybody stand in your way. Go out there and stay positive and don’t let the first small set back get you down.
If you are short of cash, there are always alternative options.

Most banks offer low-interest student loans. There are also bursaries to apply for, which are offered by big companies, special organisations as well as the universities. The most important thing you can do is continue and keep trying. Eventually your hard work will pay off.
