Regarding the Dundee July, I believe this is a very good event for the area in terms of bringing people who spend money and boost the economy. With the Government bankrolling most of the accommodation, money is no option.
This year the traffic was better than in previous years although I believe more can be done to give those going to the event their own lane.
Traffic going to Strathmore Park can be exclusively directed up Tandy Street, then on to Hardy Street, through to Biggar and finally on to Fouche Street. The Tandy Street/Victoria Street crossing is a nightmare especially in the late afternoon once the demon alcohol has taken its grip on drivers. Watching the vehicles dodge each other, drive on the pavement and/or just jump in front of another car in a bid to get in front. This behavior is very silly in my book as Victoria Street was so busy it would not have made any difference to his travel time getting home even by racing.
Just a final thought.
The Dundee July should also consider some kind of transformation and a development programme for schools so we can get some white and Indian jockeys to ride. I have seen black school children playing jukskei – a traditional Afrikaner game – it would be nice to see other races have a go at the Dundee July. After all, we must all race to be inclusive.
