I would like to take this opportunity to respond to Distressed Resident’s letter, Reader predicts a dim future for Estcourt.
READ THE LETTER HERE: Reader predicts a dim future for Estcourt
I whole-heartedly agree with Distressed Resident and I am sure that hundreds of locals feel the same way too.
Are we living in a town with no bright prospects for the future? I often wonder about this and when I look around at the current state of things, it does paint a rather bleak picture.
However, what I would like to propose is that Estcourtonians take back their town.
In the past, there has been talk of paying our rates into a private account and using this to fix up our town; I think this is a great idea.

If we, the residents, sit back and allow our municipality to misuse our money, we won’t get anywhere. It is obvious that some municipal staff are only in their jobs to get wealth and power.
The plight of the town and its residents don’t seem to be one of their priorities.
READ THIS: Acceptable level of service delivery is expected
If we have a responsible Ratepayer’s Committee that is tenacious, then I think we can get our town back on track.
This has been done in other towns, with success. For how long are we going to be complaining about the same issues over and over, knowing that it falls on deaf ears?
Something must be done, and fast.
Hopeful Resident
