Editor – Everyone in Ladysmith knows about the infamous “Stink” spruit… And if they don’t know it, I’m sure they can smell it driving down Poort Road, as the raw sewage stench is hard to miss.
This has been an ongoing problem for years now and it has not been solved, despite numerous complaints from businesses and residents alike who have to deal with the reek every day.
This is not getting worked up over a small issue; this is getting upset over a health risk to the entire town that also disrupts daily life.
Raw effluent is flowing into the spruit in a residential area that includes a children’s park – approximately one kilometre that stretches from the bottom of Ruby Gailey Drive to Poort Road, which then flows into the Klip River.
Hopefully there are plans afoot to solve this matter before it has any serious or permanent effects.
