Can you give us protection from your stupidity?

One thing South African’s are never short of is entertainment. You don’t even need DSTV to be entertained either; you just need to follow the news.

Over the years, South African politicians, sports stars and high profile people have all said or done something, which has gone on to be a source of entertainment for the county. Take former cricket captain, Hansie Cronje, who when questioned as to why he was involved in match-fixing, replied that the devil made him do it. The devil went on to take a lot of blame during that period as everyone decided to use him as a scapegoat.

One of the more famous on-air gaffes that became a trending topic was, ‘don’t touch me on my studio’. During an interview with eNews, André Visagie, former AWB Secretary General, took offence to a line of questioning by political analyst, Lebohang Pheko, ripped off his microphone and stormed off the set. He then returned, saying: “You won’t dare interrupt me…I am not finished with you.” Anchor, Chris Maroleng stepped in to diffuse the situation.

During the mini-altercation with Visagie, Maroleng uttered the phrase, ‘don’t touch me on my studio,’ to which Visagie replied. ‘I’ll touch you on your studio.’ The phrase became an instant trending topic and soon inspired memes and was also remixed into a song.

Jacob Zuma too has provided South African’s with plenty of entertainment over the years. Just his reign as presidency was a joke alone. But it was his public speaking that people most looked forward to.
When he wasn’t reading out figures with hilarious results, JZ was also giving rise to the phrase ‘in the beningging’.
In the beningging went on to also be used in numerous internet memes and bra Jacob’s number reading skills also inspired a calculator app called, Zumalator, which at one stage could be downloaded from the PlayStore. Since Jacob left office, South Africans were struggling to find entertaining content on the news for a while.

Then stepped in IT Chief, Mmamathe Makhekhe-Mokhuane, who has become the new talking point for people nationwide. Makhekhe-Mokhuane has given birth to the phrase ‘can you give me protection from yourself?’ What does she mean exactly? Well, it appears as if she doesn’t know herself, using the line twice already, both times in the wrong context.

The only thing South African’s need protection from is the crime, petrol price increases, fraud and corruption and ignorant and idiotic politicians and powerful people who run this country into the ground.
