Ferrum High School girls off to hockey grand finals
Ferrum High School has a long track record with the Spar KZN School Girls Hockey Challenge, they've made the trip to Durban in six out of seven years in the competition.
It’s a wrap for the ten regional rounds of the Spar KZN School girls hockey challenge.
The focus now shifts to the hockey grand finals, to be played at the St Mary’s Diocesan School for Girls (DSG) on July 29 and 30.
First to advance to the final round was Ferrum High School.
Ferrum has a long track record with the hockey tournament, and has made the trip to Durban in six out of seven years of the competition.
After missing out in 2016, the team is eager to make an impact.

Ferrum is joined by a number of teams reflecting both experienced campaigners as well as newcomers to the final stage.
These teams are:
St Anne’s College (Pietermaritzburg Central) St John’s DSG (Northern Regionals), Durban Girls College (DBN Central), Our Lady of Fatima (DBN North), Amanzimtoti High School (Durban South), King Edward High (Ugu/Sisonke), Wartburg Kirchdorf School (uThukela/uMzinyathi), St Mary’s DSG (Highway Regional) and Grantleigh College (North Coast).
Ferrum boasts six appearances as the NKZN Regional Winner.
The local team achieved a 10th place in 2013 and 2014, a sixth place in 2011 and had its best performances in 2012 and 2015, where it finished fifth overall.
However, St Anne’s remains the odds-on favourite.
The Maritzburg school has also made six Grand Finals, earning one fourth place, three bronze finishes and winning the entire competition once.
