Peak Performance from Newcastle JKA Karateka
The Newcastle JKA Karate Dojo beginners and colour belts train twice a week at the Newcastle Farmers Hall on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, while senior brown and black belts trained from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
With more than 200 participants competing at the Northern Kwa-Zulu Natal Championships on February 24, it was with great pride that Newcastle JKA Sensei, Johan Swart announced a total of 65 local karateka were placed in the top four positions in their respective divisions.
This would earn them at least one medal each and also made them eligible to represent KwaZulu-Natal at the National JKA Championships which will be held at the Standard Bank Arena, in Johannesburg, on the weekend of May 25 and 26.

Swart said the tournament director of the Japanese Karate Association (JKA) of South Africa, Sensei Warren Bainton, who was present to audit the championships, was happy with the overall standard achieved throughout the NKZN JKA region.
“We would like to congratulate all karateka on their fine achievements, and look forward to the training sessions leading up to the Nationals, to ensure the high standard continues to improve.”
