PREVIEW: Meet Newcastle’s own ‘Mr Awesome’ Anton Schoombee
Last year October, is when he was formally introduced to powerlifting, after he had competed in the Newcastle Strong Man Competition.

Hard work, motivation and dedication is what keeps 29-year-old, Anton Schoombee on the right track, as he pursues his passion for powerlifting.

With only six months training, Anton has already left his mark in the sport, after he attained second place at the recent Rhino Powerlifting Club (RPC) Nationals in Durban.
“My weigh-in was at 133.1 kilograms, and I lifted a total weight of 750kg. This was calculated by a total of 270kg in the squat division, 180 kg in the bench division and 300 kg in the deadlift division.”
This qualified him to compete at the world championships, which will be held in Orlando, United States of America in October this year.

“I must admit I was feeling ill on the day as I had the flu, but I was not going to let this stop me. So I pushed through, and I am very proud of what I achieved,” he said
