The Natal Fresh Water Angling Association (NFWAA) recently held its annual awards function in Dundee, marking the close of the 2024/2025 season.

There was a familiar look to the line-up of prize-winners, as the Ladysmith Angling Club made a clean sweep of the team awards by retaining both the Atlas Towlines League title and the Zamamena Construction Knockout title.

Itec Freespool finished a close second in both competitions, while Docrats secured third place in the league, followed by Chelmsford, Riverside, Endumeni, Ace Aqua, and Glencoe.

Individual honours were shared among several clubs:
  • The heaviest scaled fish, weighing 4.32kg, was caught during League 3 at Sanford Islands by Ski Mohan of Itec Freespool.
  • Vishu Pillay of Glencoe landed the heaviest non-scaled fish — a barbel tipping the scales at 12.09kg.
  • The Itec Newcastle-sponsored Angler of the Year title went down to the wire, with Udien Govinder (80 points) narrowly edging out his Ladysmith teammate Ramil Juggan (79 points) by a single point.
  • Govinder took home a cash prize of R3 000, while Juggan earned R2 000 for his runner-up finish.
  • Third place went to Shaheen Sindhi, who received R1 000.
  • Chelmsford’s Piet Bothma was named Senior Angler of the Year, while Junior Male Angler of the Year went to Jayden Dunn of Itec Freespool.
  • Representing Riverside, junior angler Talia Veran claimed both the Junior Female and Overall Female Angler titles.

The NFWAA committee congratulated all the prize-winners and expressed their gratitude to the event sponsors; Itec Newcastle, Atlas Towlines, and Zamamena Construction.
