Youngsters steely with bat and ball
Amajuba Cricket Unions President’s XI took on Senzeni Mthembu’s XI in a spectacular showing of class and sportmanship on the cricket field.
The Proteas may be battling it out down under for the ICC Cricket World Cup, but locally a rivalry to match that of the Proteas and the Aussies was being played out.
Amajuba Cricket Unions President’s XI took on Senzeni Mthembu’s XI in a spectacular showing of class and sportmanship on the cricket field.
The President’s XI won the toss and elected to bat first.
Through excellent innings from batsmen, Ismail Peer, Mohammed Uwais Moola and Shekhar Krishanla, President’s XI scored an impressive 140/8 in the team’s 25 over innings.
Ismail topped the scoring card with a stunning knock of 33 runs. Uwais and Shekhar put on the second highest totals scoring 24 and 23 respectively.
In the bowling attack from Senzeni, two bowlers proved to have a lot of potential, and developing skill, but were let down by fielding errors. They were Luyanda Diba and Banele Simelane. Luyanda completed his bowling innings with an impressive two-wicket tally, and conceding 22 runs only after his five overs. Banele also claimed two wickets, but has to work on his consistency as he received somewhat of a walloping from the President’s XI batting line-up as he was hit for a total of 56 runs in his five overs.
Banele regained some pride in his batting performance when he scored the highest innings for Senzeni, a total of 13 runs.
Young Banele has the groundwork laid to become an excellent player through training and dedication.
Senzeni only managed to put on a team total of 65 before President’s XI bowled out the entire team.
Top bowler for President’s XI was the promising young Mohammed Hashim.
While he may only be 11 years old, Mohammed is bowling well beyond his years, having notched himself an outstanding quiver of six wickets, while only conceding 10 runs in his four over spell.
He was also awarded the Debonairs Bowling Award.
Coach and cricketing great, Amos Cassimjee said it was amazing to see the development of the youth.
“Their commitment is outstanding! They are so passionate about the game it is unreal. My wish now is only for the community to come out and support these youngsters who are playing such amazing cricket,” he concluded.
