Is this a golf record?

Scoring 29 points on the front nine, Ruben Meads and Richard Naidoo followed it up with a 25

Over the years very good scores were posted in betterball competitions notably by Wilfie Laatz (then playing off an 18) and Dups Price-Moore, but never in my 34 years at the club have I witnessed a solid 54 points.

Scoring 29 points on the front nine, Ruben Meads and Richard Naidoo followed it up with a 25. The term in golf that you ‘dufftail’ was certainly the order of the day as not one of them were cut by more than one stroke.

They won the jackpot on 12 points with Doc Chotu closest to the pin. Doc and Kammy Baboolal ran in second on a distant 45 on count out from Carlo Piagesti and Peter Wood. Wednesday’s was won by Vaughn and Friday’s by Harry.

Sunday’s competition is sponsored by Stan Kippen with plenty of meat hampers to be won. Saturday’s Skaapdag is sponsored by Fred Vickers. The committee urges players to enter their initials and surnames on the score cards and not only the first name.

Owen is through to the next round with Vaughn v/s Arnold and Joe v/s David to be played by June 27. The weekend was concluded with a sumptuous meal prepared by Nikki for Father’s Day.
