Locals bring home the medals at SA Wushu champs

The judges and the SA Wushu President were equally impressed by the branch's performance

Four young men from the Estcourt Wushu branch participated in an open championship tournament in Roodepoort on June 11.

The boys and their instructor Si Hang Ian Xulu were part of the South African Wushu Warriors Open Championships, which saw dozens of entrants from across the country merge to demonstrate their martial arts skills.

All four boys did extremely well and received gold and silver medals. Lindokuhle Khumalo received a gold medal in the senior category and Phelelani Hadebe received a silver medal in this category. In the junior category Simingaye Vilakazi received gold and Lwethu Mabaso received a silver medal.

“I was surprised by the boys’ performance. They applied what they had learnt and made me very proud,” said Si Hang Ian.

He added that the judges and the SA Wushu President were equally impressed by the branch’s performance. If you would like to learn martial arts, the Estcourt Wushu branch hosts classes at the Papkuilsfontein Hall on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday from 5pm.
