The area will this week again make a name for itself in off-road motorsport circles when the Impi Enduro gets underway over the long weekend with the start and finish at Tugela Ferry under the jurisdiction of the Msinga Municipality.
Willem Wentzel, one of the co-organisers of one of the biggest sporting events in the district, said they are ‘incredibly excited about the support from Msinga Municipality, Super Sport DSTV and having the official biking magazine, “Bike SA” covering the event.’.
“This year we have 600 entries which is well up on the 400 from last year. Top riders from here, the UK, Germany and neighbouring countries are expected. Last year’s winner, William Slater, is back to defend his title along with another highly rated rider, Barend Erasmus and top lady off-road rider, Kirsten Landman,” Willem told the Courier.

The average speed per rider will be about 20km per hour, riding on cattle and goats paths up and down mountain passes, river beds and riders even cross the Tugela river twice.

The event will still be run over three days, starting on Thursday (time trials) and Friday (day 1) and Saturday (day 2).” This year there will be way more spectators flocking to the event as it has grown in popularity, labelled as the biggest Hard Enduro in South Africa.”

Start and finish will be at Tugela Ferry Raceway, just outside Tugela Ferry. Entrants and supporters have been encouraged to bring along balls or any other sport equipment or blankets to assist the disadvantaged in this rural area.
