Bowled over on Women’s Day

Dundee Bowling Club will be attempting to break the South African Record for continuous bowls.

The club hosted a Woman’s Day fun bowls day on Wednesday, August 9. It was awesome to see 20 players on the green considering we had a number of members down the South Coast competing in the Scottburgh Tournament. Great fun was had by all and congratulations to all the winners. The winner on the day was Des Johnson on 180 points, second was Nan Roos on 178 points and third was Ian De Jager on 174 points. Dora, Hans, Louisa, Sylvia and Morne picked up prizes for fourth through to eighth place. Sheryl ‘Guava’ Hesom didn’t go home empty handed either as she managed to just beat Lourens into last place. Also, to our two special ladies Monique (Morne) and Franscina (Frans) for filling in for the ladies – well done and good sportsmanship.

Winners in their respective categories, Louis de Jager and Nan Roos

The past weekend saw the Club Handicap Singles being played. Nine men and six ladies took to the greens to battle it out for top spot. Congratulations to Louis ‘Baksteen’ De Jager and Nan Roos on winning their respective divisions. Runners up in the men’s and ladies’ divisions were husband and wife, Jacques Bierbaum and Taryn Bierbaum. Again, the camaraderie on the greens and the quality of bowls played was just wonderful to see. Well done to all who played.
The club wishes to congratulate the following players on their selection into the KZNCB squad and who will participate in the Presidents Cup in October to be played in Ladysmith.
Nan Roos – Ladies Open; Des Johnson – Men’s ‘B’ side; Dougie Slabbert – Men’s Seniors and Greg Conolly – Presidents side.
