Conservation-minded anglers open their own fishing club in Ladysmith

The club is relatively new, as it was established last year, but the founders say they are already on the road to success

Ladysmith is well known for having fishermen who have a passion for the sport and know how to land the ‘big ones’.

With that in mind, two local anglers opened the Klip River Angling Club here in town. They are Lloyd Jugdawooh, who is president of the club, and Darren Subramoney (vice-president).

The club is relatively new, having been established last year, but Lloyd and Darren say they are already on the road to success. The club plans to make its mark in the fishing season after the Covid-19 lockdown is lifted.

While being competitive, Lloyd says the main aim of the club is to have good fun. On a serious note, they are looking to promote conservation by using the best practices for proper fish care. A ‘catch and release’ policy will be adhered to, which is a “big thing” in the modern-day fishing community.

The club will be involved in both competitive and social fishing.

At this moment, their hearts go out to all the fishermen who are affected by the lockdown. “However, the main thing is that people must be safe and not go out fishing to help flatten the curve of Covid-19 in the country,” say the responsible club founders.

They are looking for interested sponsors to come on board and help the newly-developed club become successful.

Numerous men and women, as well as juniors, have already joined the club and are just itching to cast in their lines after lockdown.
