FNS Cricket hits Covid-19 for a six in Ladysmith
The academy has confirmed that all Covid-19 health protocols will be followed, including the sanitizing of all equipment, wearing of masks, as well as social distancing and a strict focus on non-contact

Lockdown level 3 has brought huge relief to many people in the country, with almost eight million going back to work as South Africa attempts to revive the economy.
One of the key beneficiaries is ‘non-contact sport’, as communities start their get-fit programmes, jogging, cycling and road running. FNS Cricket, which has been in limbo since the lockdown, was quick on the uptake to resume both softball and hard-ball cricket coaching.
Head Coach Faroek Seedat was quietly optimistic that sporting activities would resume, and was convinced that a return to coaching children and adults would be a step in the right direction as the country returns to normality.
“After receiving numerous calls from parents and queries from budding cricketers, I felt compelled to kick-start the 2020 coaching programme and was confident that after months of inactivity, FNS Cricket would be in a position to assist. We had to re-engineer some of our modules to ensure a holistic fitness programme as a precursor to cricket coaching,” said Seedat.
FNS Cricket enjoys sound support in Ladysmith and Bergville, and over the past seven years, Seedat has shown a commitment and passion to work with young children.
Level 3 lockdown allows for non-contact sport, and coaching fits snugly into this space. Coach Seedat was hopeful that parents would see a need to revitalise the lives of their children after stay-at-home constraints, and that those focused on hard-ball cricket could also get to normalise their coaching routines.

One of the key elements of the success of FNS Cricket is that their course material is dependent on the sports value chain – from nursery, age-level coaching to competitive sport – but most importantly, emphasis on all-round fitness, discipline, teamwork and leadership development. Supported by both junior and senior coaches, the young cricketers are taken through a wide repertoire of physical exercises, eye-hand co-ordination, skills development, group therapy and fine ball skills.
The academy confirmed that all Covid-19 health protocols would be followed, including the sanitizing of all equipment, wearing of masks, as well as social distancing and a strict focus on non-contact.
With Cricket South Africa set to host India in a T20 series in August, cricket-starved supporters and cricketers themselves are looking forward to the resumption of sporting activities. Seedat also has a wide range of coaching skills for hard-ball cricket and as a level 3 accredited coach, he will be in a position to prep cricketers for the summer of 2020.
