Where does the egg hunt come from?

A favourite activity over the Easter weekend will always be the Easter egg hunt.

The joy of the Easter egg hunt is believed to have started in America when German immigrants took their Osterhase tradition to Pennsylvania in the 1700s.

It didn’t take long for this tradition to spread across the nation, and eventually all across the world.

Traditionally, treasure hunt prizes have always been hard-boiled eggs, but have later changed to more tasteful treats like candy and chocolate – Thank goodness!

Easter egg hunts have spread far and wide with the Cypress Gardens Adventure Park in Winter Haven, Florida, USA, holding the Guinness World Record.

In 2007 on April 1, 501 000 eggs were hidden and were searched for by 9 753 children, accompanied by their parents.

Many years of Easter egg hunting have passed, and this tradition is still going strong.
