Two years ago, Sonja Luus and Desiree van Dyk founded their dream project, The Invisible Phenomenal Women Community Awards.
The project is aimed at celebrating the efforts of all women in our community and giving them the recognition they deserve.
Looking to reach out to all women and not only nominees, the project hopes to reach a target of 2000 women from across the Newcastle area. Women can even nominate themselves for an award!

“Even under the authority of men, women can achieve great things. We thank the men in our lives for standing by our side and helping us accomplish our goals,” said founder, Sonja Luus. She said there were phenomenal husbands out there too!
The Invisible Phenomenal Women Community Awards will be hosting a gala function at the Blackrock Casino on October 25. The function will begin at 6.30pm, tickets will be charged at R 150 per person which includes refreshments and a three-course meal. A discount will be given for a table booking for ten. RSVP must be on or before Tuesday, October 21.
Guests can expect an entirely different programme from what they were used to at past functions. The event is focused on honouring six women from the Newcastle community for their life-long contributions.
For the men attending, NTT Nissan will have five of their latest models on display next to the venue.
The project is community based, and a portion of ticket sales to the project’s award ceremonies go to CANSA .
