Working on a good thing

MABHUKI ‘Lucky’ Nkosi, the Station Manager of AbaQulusi Community Radio, has big plans for local musical talent.

Mr Nkosi, along with his peers and fellow musicians, Jerome Serwanga and Graham Leigh, will be striving to raise an awareness amongst the youth of Vryheid of the music of bygone eras. Although the launch of the AbaQulusi Community Radio Station has been temporarily put on hold, Mr Nkosi’s passion for music remains unwavered. He will be planning a roadshow of sorts to promote local talent and the upcoming radio station.

Jerome Serwanga, a talented musician who plays many instruments and is musically active at the CBCI Christian Bible Church on the corner of Landdrost and Spoor Street, is equally passionate about this plight, which involves staging jazz shows, forming a great band to play all kinds of music and helping the youth to make their dreams a reality through music.

Mr Leigh, an avid music fan and keyboard player, as well as the former bass guitarist for the 1970’s South African band, ‘The Outlet’ known for their hit, ‘Working on a Good Thing’ alongside musicians, Clive Calder and Peter Vee, will assist in an advisory capacity, regarding auditions and band structure.

Small town that Vryheid may be, it is slowly but surely becoming a hotbed for musical talent, with many talented musicians treating local fans to some brilliant performances in recent months.
