Small towns hardly ever get noticed, right? Well, soon that will be a thing of the past. SABC2 has added a new reality TV talent contest, which is based on the concept of going into South African towns in search of a wonderfully quirky and interesting talent to develop.

Showville has an international format, similar to SA’s Got Talent, and will be taking to South Africa’s “overlooked” towns to find contestants with interesting talents whose skills are put to a town vote.

The South African version of Showville is a co-production between two production companies, Okuhle Media and Cooked in Africa Films, and aims at boosting the weekend schedule and viewership.

While SABC1 added The X-Factor SA, SABC3 successfully revived Strictly Come Dancing and M-Net continues with the timeless Idols, SABC2 hopes that a local version of Showville will bring some buzz. The first season of Showville on SABC2 will only visit the three provinces of the Western Cape, the Free State and KwaZulu-Natal.

The production team is currently working through the town selection. Other provinces will be included for the second season next year.

Towns that are included in Showville’s first season range from Winterton, Estcourt and Ladysmith to mention a few. The winner in each town walks away with R10 000.

As Showville visits small towns, award-winning comedian, dancer and actor Rob van Vuuren and award-winning dancer Bontle Modiselle will choose four finalists whose performances are put to a town vote to decide who wins R10 000.

After the open audition process, Bontle and Rob will mentor the four talented finalists to ensure they deliver a moving performance.

The show will be screened on SABC2 on Saturdays at 8pm from 7 November. Dates and the venue for the auditions will be confirmed soon. Each town has its star could that star be you? Keep an eye out for further details.
