Louwsburg FWI -An act of kindness

LOUWSBURG contributed well, to the “Fidget Cushion” initiative to help patients of Alzheimer’s and cerebral palsy.

“Fidget cushions” originally started as fidget aprons, but Linda Melson, a member of the Yellowwood Park Evening Institute (WEI) decided men didn’t want to wear an apron and that it was quite an issue to tie these aprons on the patients.

So she designed the Fidget Cushion.

Different Alzheimer patients have different obsessions, so different textures and patterns are good stimuli for them. At a meeting Linda introduced the idea to the Federal Women’s Institute’s President Rosemary Killen, and she adopted this idea as a project for all Women’s Institutes in KwaZulu Natal.

Magdaleen Blanche from Louwsburg FW,I who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease earlier in 2015, dedicated herself to sewing a total of 17 Fidget Cushions, while the branch contributed a total of 20 Fidget Cushions.

Louwsburg FWI believe that these Fidget Cushions will be a big asset to the nursing staff or caregivers of Alzheimer patients. We are proud of what we do, and we find great pleasure in serving our country.
