KTMs to roar into Dundee this weekend
The plan is to have two riding days namely Friday and Saturday, so weekend patrons will arrive on Thursday, check in and then check out only on Sunday morning.
The roar of KTM motorbike engines will bring back long-awaited two-wheel action to the battlefields when over 180 bikes descend on Battlefields Country Lodge this weekend for the first-ever KTM Festival.
Treffon Smith, one of the organisers of the festival, said the battlefields was picked to play host for the historic event because of the challenging terrain, the geographical and historical nature of the area and the Lodge, which lends itself to such a gathering.
Entry is free at the event where spectators will get a chance to watch the bikers tackle the enduro track with motorcross sections for kiddies and MX riders.
The emphasis is on purity, performance, adventure and extreme – as long as your bike says KTM, of course. “History lesson aside, this venue was chosen, not only for its picturesque scenery but most importantly, the riding terrain is top drawer – everything a ready-to-race event should offer – the key focus being riding,” Treffon told the Courier.
“The event is strictly open to KTM motorcycles only. This is our party and we will be only orange if we want to! We have the assistance of local farmers in the area so all the off road routes, be they adventure or endurance, will traverse private, never-before-seen territories.”

The Enduro loop, of about 65km, has been set out by a local farmer and Enduro rider, Craig van Heerden, who is the course designer for the extreme endurance track in the area, the Impi. The adventure loop is being set up by the same people that plot the ever popular LDBA event in the Lowveld.
