Superstitions can be found almost anywhere. Here are five superstitions that are linked to Good Friday.

Good Friday signifies the day Jesus Christ sacrificed himself for the benefit of mankind, according to Christian belief.

However, a certain amount of superstitions arose around the day, some of which might seem a tad unusual.

1. Changing your sheets will bring you bad luck

According to legend, changing your sheets on Good Friday will bring bad dreams. This comes from the belief that God cursed Good Friday, after Jesus was apparently slapped in the face by wet material before being taken away to be crucified.

 

2. If you die on Good Friday or Easter, you go straight to heaven

Some believe if you die on either Good Friday or Easter, you get to go straight to Heaven. While this is not how it works, this superstition did actually exist.

 

3. Haircuts to avoid toothaches

Having a haircut on Good Friday will apparently prevent toothaches throughout the rest of the year.

 

4. Hot cross buns bring luck

During the Easter period, stores stock up on hot cross buns, but who knew they brought luck? Not only are goods baked on Good Friday said to never spoil, but hot cross buns allegedly possess amazing qualities. The buns are a traditional food item in the United Kingdom, where it’s believed that sharing a bun with another person ensures friendship through the year. Also, if you have any old ones lying around, be sure to hang them up in your home as they are believed to protect your home from fire.

 

5. Babies born on Good Friday receive special powers

It is uncertain where this superstition came from, but it is said if you have a baby on Good Friday, be sure to have them baptised on Easter, as this will give your child the power of healing.
