Watch your six – the Newcastle Airshow has been cleared for take-off.

The runway has been cleared, the planes are polished, and aviation fans are in for a real treat at the sixth annual airshow, the largest still held in KwaZulu-Natal.

On June 4, local skies will play host to a myriad of flying machines.

“The Newcastle Airshow, considered by many as one of the major airshows on the South African calendar, will again attract fans from across the province,” explained Champ Marketing MD, Johan Pieters.

The Newcastle Airshow also holds the distinction of being identified as a partnership opportunity by the South African Air Force.

“This year, the Silver Falcons aerobatic team is back, and a request for a Gripen jet has been submitted. Will we be allowed to break the sound barrier this year? Only time will tell.”

Menno Parsons, one of this year’s show sponsors, will wow the crowds with his fleet, including P51 Mustang Sally, Tiger Huey ZS-HGC chopper, and the Aero L39 Albatros.

“Residents can look forward to some big announcements closer to the show, regarding who will participate in this certified A-grade airshow.”

Overall, Mr Pieters described the airshow as a family event appealing to all people, and residents can look forward to food stalls, a beer garden and various exhibitions.
