NOFTA honours mothers

"If you still have your mother, you need to appreciate her. Once you lose your mother, I can tell you from experience, your life will never be the same."

Newcastle Organisation for the Aged (Nofta) hosted its annual Mother’s Day function at the Nofta Service Centre, on Saturday.

Nofta secretary, Bully Singh, said the event was to celebrate and honour the mothers of the organisation. It was not a conventional day, but a parade for the aged, and to crown the most glamorous mother.

Members were treated to a five-course meal, and entertainment was provided by Blue Waters Band.

Mr Singh said all Nofta functions were always well-supported, thanks to a very capable chairman, Rajesh Ramdaw, and loyal sponsors.

“Our executive committee looks forward to building a safe house in the future. I am currently busy negotiating with the National Lottery Board for funding. We are a very strong committee and our service centre is one of the best in KwaZulu-Natal.”

The guest speaker of the evening was the Mayor, Afzul Rehman, who spoke about the importance of honouring mothers.

“If you still have your mother, you need to appreciate her. Once you lose your mother, I can tell you from experience, your life will never be the same.”

He also thanked Nofta members for their continued support, and said he would always go out of his way to help the organisation.

Guests were also entertained by dancers of the Dundee Ramdas Family and CKN, who prepared special acts for the occasion.

The lovely women of Nofta paraded on the stage, and were presented with gifts, whereafter the most glamorous mother was crowned.

“This was our highlight for the evening. It was our way of acknowledging the women of Nofta,” said Mr Singh.

The committee thanked all the guests, the mayor, and the sponsors who had provided the wonderful prizes and gifts.
