Curating creativity

“The local visual artists are invited to collect the exhibition entry form at Carnegie Art Gallery, on the corner of Voortrekker and Scott streets,” Ms Dlamini explained.

In the coming weeks, Carnegie Art Gallery will become a hive of both activity and creativity.

Museum Curator, Phumzile Dlamini recently revealed the gallery was inviting local artists to discuss the challenges faced by the visual art industry, during a meeting on May 20.

The brainstorming session will take place from 9am, where those with an eye for the finer things in life will share their thoughts with fellow artists.

In addition to this event, the monthly Art Fair will take place from May 31 to June 1.

For the duration of the fair, guests can look forward to guided tours and art workshops, ranging from beadwork, to embroidery, drawing and painting.

Fast-forward to September Carnegie will host the Igugu Lami Heritage Exhibition in September 2016; an event anticipated by many an artist and crafter.

“The local visual artists are invited to collect the exhibition entry form at Carnegie Art Gallery, on the corner of Voortrekker and Scott streets,” Ms Dlamini explained.

“This is an opportunity to develop, empower and market the local artists and their artworks locally, nationally and internationally, as we are planning to extend the partnership with other countries in terms of exhibitions, as well as art residencies.”

Artists are advised to collect their entry forms as soon as possible, to allow them enough time to produce artworks on par with international standards.

Artworks of any media are acceptable. For more information, contact the gallery on 034 328 7622. Alternatively, email Ms Dlamini via Phumzile. Dlamini@newcastle.gov.za
