Slithering new friend named George

His owner said that George was starting to get hungry and tried striking at him

While most would run at the sight of a snake, others seem to find the need to love it as a pet or even a member of the family.

This “beautiful” reptile named George (in the above photograph) is now a pet to a boy living in town. George is a rat snake, and this species feeds on rodents and birds. They love heat.

These snakes are medium to large constrictors and although it was once thought they were non-venomous, recent studies have shown that they do in fact have small amounts of venom – but too little for it to be a problem to humans. This is why they make such great pets, supposedly!

A journalist had the opportunity to hold this slithering pet and we took a snapshot of him. At about two years old, he is approximately two metres long and will stop growing soon.

His owner says that George even tried striking at him when hungry, but when we met Georgie, he was cool, calm and relaxed.
