#ThrowbackThursday: Origami to jog your childhood memories

We take you back to a time when paper boats were more fascinating than cellphones, and paper fortune tellers or quack-quacks predicted your future.

Origami is the art of paper folding, which is often associated with Japanese culture. Although origami has evolved immensely, the basics almost never change.

Do you remember back in the day when the teacher would catch you making paper planes or passing around letters to your crush in the shape of a heart?

We take you back to the time when paper boats were more fascinating than cellphones, and paper fortune tellers or quack-quacks predicted your future.

Here are five origami crafts from your childhood:

1. Paper planes

Flying these planes around the classroom got you in big trouble sometimes, but it was fun. Seeing whose plane could cover the greater distance was an epic race.

2. Paper boats

Once the rain had stopped, a muddle of water was home to paper boats. Although some sank like the Titanic, others sailed into the sunset.

3. Paper hearts

The good old days when love letters still existed. Receiving a paper heart like this meant you were really special. It was gifted and contained the true contents of ones heart.

4. Paper guns

Boys, and even some girls, played ‘cops and robbers’ with these guns. The fascination came in when one could animatedly cock the gun and fire away.

5. Paper fortune teller

Dubbed the mother of all origami, this captivating game made great memories. It predicted who you would marry, how many children you would have and even the colour of your car, just by a choice of colours and numbers.
