Tyson Sibiya celebrates his 50th parkrun with victory as 11 participants record personal bests.

Saturday’s Vryheid parkrun was a morning of milestones, personal bests and plenty of reasons to celebrate, with Tyson Sibiya and Amanda Zwane both reaching their 50th events.

Sibiya marks milestone with victory

Sibiya marked the occasion in style by finishing first overall on his milestone 50th parkrun.

Liané van Zyl also continued her strong form, taking the top spot among the female finishers for the second consecutive week. Congratulations went to Van Zyl on another excellent run.

Junior runner shines in third place

Special recognition went to junior runner Drico Kotzé, who was the first junior finisher and crossed the line in third place overall. The JM10 runner was involved in an exciting race to the finish and set a new personal best time in the process.

Another milestone was reached by Amanda Zwane, who completed her 50th parkrun.

11 participants record personal bests

The morning also produced 11 new personal best times. Congratulations went to Drico, Clevyle, Samuel, Zanele, Sugandren, Nokuthula, Rika, Ane, Abigail, Tanya and Annerien.

Vryheid parkrun also welcomed five first-time participants to the event.

What is a parkrun PB?

A personal best, or PB, at parkrun is a participant’s fastest recorded time over the 5km course. It is not limited to runners, as walkers, joggers and everyone else taking part can achieve a PB.

Each participant’s parkrun profile is updated after every event, with their personal best recorded under the Summary Stats section.

For many participants, a PB provides a useful way to track their progress and see how their fitness and training are developing.

At Vryheid parkrun, reaching a new personal best is something worth celebrating, with participants encouraged to ring the PB bell and share the achievement with fellow parkrunners.
