Traffic Alert: N1 reopens after widespread protest disruptions

Road users are urged to follow directions from traffic officials on scene.

The N1 near Winburg has been cleared and open for traffic altough authorities is still monitoring the situation. This follows after widespread protest action that started earlier this week, resulting in the closure of the N1 near Winburg.

Take note of the following:

Sipho Towa, chairperson of Road Incident Management Systems (RIMS) in the Free State advised that road users should avoid

  • entering Winburg via the Brandfort-bridge (N1) entrance.
  • The Theunissen-bridge turn-off onto N5 to Winburg town is however currently safe to use.
  • Road users are urged to follow directions from traffic officials on scene.

Further updates will be issued as the situation develops, Towa said.
