Netcare 911 reported that at 19:15 on Tuesday evening April 18, Netcare 911 paramedics responded to a collision on the R57 between Sasolburg and Heilbron. Reports from the scene indicate that two vehicles collided head-on , exact detail to the cause however will form part of the police investigation.Paramedics arrived at the scene and found accident debris and the twisted frames of the vehicles, consistent with that of a high impact collision spread over a large area, some of the injured were still trapped in the twisted metal.

Paramedics worked fervently to stabilise the injured at the scene  while firefighters used the Jaws of Life to free them. After triaging the patients, it was found that one man sustained life-threatening injuries while four others were seriously injured.  The Netcare 911 advanced life support paramedics stabilised the critically injured driver from the Ford Ranger  and after he was placed on a ventilator, they airlifted him to a specialised hospital for the care that he required. Tragically the man died soon after arriving at the hospital due to the extensive injuries that he sustained. The four seriously injured patients from the other vehicle were stabilised at the scene before they were transported to a Heilbron hospital by the provincial ambulance services. Chris Botha – Media Liaison Officer – Netcare 911.
