The best everyday eateries in South Africa, as voted for by the public, have been announced at the Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Best Everyday Eateries celebrations in Cape Town and Johannesburg. The Western Cape winners were announced in Cape Town on 18 October 2016. The public’s favourite eateries in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Free State and Mpumalanga were announced at the Johannesburg celebration held at the Mercedes-Benz Bedfordview dealership on 25 October.

The recipients of these accolades were determined by the public through user reviews and ratings on www.eatout.co.za over the period from 1 October 2015 to 30 September 2016.

“It’s the second year we’re recognising the people’s favourite everyday eateries, and we’re very excited about the response from our growing community. We’re awarding winners in twelve categories – including the newly added Best Mexican Eatery – as well as a number of highly commended certificates. There are just so many fantastic restaurants in South Africa,” said Anelde Greeff, Editor-in-Chief of Eat Out.

When posting restaurant reviews on Eat Out, users give star ratings for food and drinks, ambience and service. The restaurants with the highest star ratings in their category and province over the full year were given top honours. Eat Out also celebrates the eateries that were crowd favourites but didn’t quite meet all the criteria to win with highly commended certificates.

Says Selvin Govender, Marketing Director of Mercedes-Benz Cars: “We’re delighted to join Eat Out again in showcasing the most popular eateries around town. Some of the categories were hotly contested, and we look forward to seeing this competition become a leading attraction on the culinary scene.”
