674 more suspects arrested in the Free State’s ongoing operations

As part of the ongoing multi-disciplinary operation through-out the Free State province, 674 more people found themselves on the wrong side of the law. One hundred and fifty-five people were arrested for contact crimes like murder, gender-based violence and rape, 11 for robbery, 75 for property-related crimes, 305 for liquor-related offences, and 139 for drug-related crimes. Drugs like dagga, nyaope, khat and crystal meth were confiscated, as well as eight firearms, ammunition and three suspected stolen vehicles.

A total of 943 liquor outlets were visited for licence compliance as well as 122 second-hand goods shops.

Other arrests included the possession of suspected stolen property, possession of dangerous weapons, stock theft, malicious damage to property and burglary. A total of 2,047 fines were issued for contravening the national roads traffic act, contravening the liquor act and non-compliance. All 674 suspects will appear in their different magistrate’s courts for the various charges. This will take place in different towns throughout the Free State province.
