Vaal River Canoe Marathon: Race postponed

A new date for the event will be communicated.

With eight sluice gates still open at Vaaldam, the organising committee, together with sponsors and event partners, made the tough call to postpone this year’s Vaal Canoe marathon.

“As much as we love a good challenge, safety comes first. Rising water levels and side rivers feeding in make the conditions unsuitable for paddlers, support crews, and spectators. We care deeply about everyone who makes this event what it is, and we want you back on the water when it’s safe, fun, and fast (but not that fast!),” event organisers said on Wednesday afternoon.

“We are actively working with the Police and Search & Rescue teams to monitor conditions and ensure everyone stays safe.”

The organissers confirmed that a new date will be communicated. They thanked paddlers for their understanding, patience, and continued support—whether from the banks or the boats.
