Suspects sought after murder of 4 on R26
At this stage, the motive for the attack remains unknown, and the identities of the deceased are yet to be confirmed.
The Free State Murder and Robbery Unit is appealing to members of the public for assistance in tracing suspects involved in a fatal shooting incident that claimed the lives of four people and left one person seriously injured.
The incident occurred on Thursday, May14 at approximately 17:15, near Perdehoek Farm along the R26 Road, about 8 kilometers outside Tweeling in the Fezile Dabi District.
It is alleged that a Honda Fit was travelling on the R26 Road towards Tweeling, when suddenly a green Mercedes-Benz with Kingdom of Lesotho registration number plates stopped in front of the Honda Fit also bearing Lesotho registration plates, while another Honda Fit stopped behind it. Approximately six armed suspects allegedly got out of the two vehicles and opened fire on the occupants of the accosted Honda Fit.
Upon police arrival at the scene, four victims were found fatally shot. A surviving passenger sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body and legs and was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
The suspects fled the scene in the two vehicles immediately after the shooting. At this stage, the motive for the attack remains unknown, and the identities of the deceased are yet to be confirmed.
Cases of four counts of murder and one count of attempted murder have been registered for investigation.
